THE SUFFERING review

I gotta tell you, something is seriously wrong with this game. Everything about this game is wrong. Not since Resident evil or the Silent hill series does a game truly exudes an extreme aura of evil. Yep, a survival horror of sorts. It's been a while since this genre ever made a move and i believe this title somehow nailed it.

You are Torque, a convict sent off to prison. Where? the Island State Penitentiary, Carnate Island. Why? Found guilty for killing his wife and two sons. You'd expect him to deserve what he did right? But then he blanked out during the massacre and ended up now not sure if he ever did it. The islands began to shook, earthquake. Suddenly the lights went out. Screeching noise ensues. Inmates and prison guards ended up dead either stabbed in the chest or poked thru the head. This is one gory game!

As you got thru quite a bit, equipped yourself with a shiv which is a makeshift blade, a guard broke thru a door and told you to lay down. But then two voices loomed, one telling me to waste that guard and another to join up with him. I could kill him straight away if i was bad enough but instead figured my options. This sort of choice happened seldomly throughout the game; which determines your overall rating thus whether you get a good or a bad ending. cool! That evil voice is quite tempting though. Blast that guy's head with a shotgun! mmm...tempting...

The monsters that pop up are all bad stuff. They're really derived from the types of execution ever held on the island. A certain weapon works best against them. The small boss like hermes, doctor Killjoy and the green gas dude really brings out the best in the game as they pushes the storyline forward. Doctor killjoy will brief you abit on why you can transform yourself into a monster. Every once in a while you're surely to bump into them, where a cutscene will takeover. Satisfying.

The puzzle in the game are so straight forward. What i mean is, they're really logical and fit in with real life. You've got to open your eyes and search around for clues. The puzzle is a plus in the game and never a burden. One example, you got fires that needs dousing right? So you turn on the sprinkler then move that crate over there and cover the drain so the place will flood a bit and eventually clear the fire. See what i mean?

The sound in the game is eerie. The ambience is spot on and sure to give you the shivers. I turned my head back many times bcoz having a 5.1 audio setup, the sound can really freak you out! The game is nice to play, featuring a third person and also first. Though the first person leaves alot to be desired because the weapon model are so not there but if you want accuracy when shooting and for atmosphere, it's ok. The indoor and outdoor environment are well done and varies as you'll be going places. You'll have a map to guide you and it imitates abit from silent hill.

The ending? Well it's all up to you really. I've got a good ending being a goodie two shoes and all. But really it's just agame. Let your heart out and just play! This game is so intense and spooky at the same time. Now my next fix would be Silent Hill 4 the Room. The Room? Muahahaha!!! dats an evil laugh ok? not the happy2 one ok? ok.

My rating: 8/10 (Downrite brutal!)

Brace yourself for...DOOM3!!!

Alrite! Finally the game we've all been waiting for. It's gonna be out officially in the US on 3rd of August and i just can't believe it! The biggie aside from Half Life2, Stalker and F.E.A.R. All this super-duper games have one thing in common: they're the ones that are gonna shook your PC with their next gen graphics and stuff, if you've the right hardware to allow it. Seriously, i'm pretty nervous here how Doom3 will play out on my PC. Scared shitless. These games have been in development for so long. Half Life2 will be around in September. That's pretty cool. To me, this is just awesome. 2 weeks from now, Hooo!!!! Doom3!!! Muahahaha!!!
