SYBERIA 2 review (part 1)

I suggest you play the original Syberia before embarking on this sequel/finale of an adventure. The game’s really a continuation of the story where it was left off. Kinda like the Matrix trilogy, but this game isn’t just a sequel. One thing, the game’s design and puzzle element are there and it’ all fresh!

Syberia 2 tells a story about Kate Walker, a New York lawyer being sent somewhere in the Alps to negotiate a takeover of a factory that makes luxury toys and automatons. Everything seems fine when you later found out that there is an heir and it’s up to you to reach him and close the deal. So the journey to find this mysterious person known as Hans Voralberg began. In this sequel, Kate and Hans, along with Oscar the automaton, travel eastward to get to their dream place…Syberia! And finally get to see some friggin’ living mammoth which is what the game is all about.

The first thing I like about this game is the graphics. It boasts a beautiful pre-rendered background. It’s art is extremely detail which really brings the game world to your attention. It’s simply breathtaking, I tell you. You’d think that a puzzle/adventure game to be simple and plain but it’s really otherwise. In fact, in this kind of genre, game makers could focus more on art direction to make the experience more memorable. You control Kate in a third person manner. Kate’s animation is well done, from walking to running and climbing ladders, it’s pleasing to see her butt up and running! She casts a very realistic shadow also when she moves about. NPCs (non-player character) are varied from Oscar to the cuddly Youki, they all have adequate movement but not that much. The cutscenes are special and only comes out during a climactic event. You’d know that this game doesn’t need that high a requirement to play it because it’s just Kate doing her thing onscreen with the background’s static. Adventure/puzzle game are famous for that, oh, except for the new Myst game, Uru. Now that’s…
